My grandfather was James Garfield LONG. He had a half-brother: Isaac Elmer
LOWER (1871-1945). Elmer is buried in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Rochelle,
Ogle County, IL. “Uncle Elmer” is believed to be the son of Isaac LOWER and
Lydia Ann COBLE. There is an “Isaac E.” residing in the household of
Jonathan Long and wife, Lydia Ann COBLE, in the 1880 census of Ogle County,
IL, Eagle Point Township. “Isaac E.” is listed as 9 years old. Jonathan
Long and Lydia Ann COBLE were married in 1873 in Ogle County.
I have a photograph of Lydia CobleLONG (seated) with a man in military
uniform standing next to her. My mom’srelatives have identified the woman
as Lydia Ann Coble LONG and I am trying todetermine if the man is her son,
Isaac Elmer LOWER. The man is wearing the familiar “campaign” hat of WWI
(“Smokey Bear” hat).
Any connection here withother LOWERs?
